In 2019 it is planned to sterilize 75% of homeless dogs

From now on the problem of homeless animals in the capital will be regulated by “The Centre for Homeless Animals Sterilization” non-commercial organization. During the meeting held today the Council of Elders unanimously approved of the corresponding draft decision. Presenting the goals of the NCO which will be created on the decision of Yerevan Mayor, the acting head of the Department of Nature Protection of Yerevan Municipality Khachik Hakobyan noted that in collaboration with the experts of the sphere, international and local NGOs, the Centre will be working out and implementing various programs aimed at the solution of the problem of stray animals. In particular, the activities will be carried out to gather, provide preliminary check-ups, vaccination, sterilization, chipping (numbering) of homeless animals. It was also mentioned that before the construction of the public clinic, an agreement was made with a number of vet clinics to start the process.
Within the recent two months more than 700 alarm calls related to homeless animals were received in the City hall. According to the surveys, the number of stray animals in Yerevan is about 15-20 thousand. This year it is planned to sterilize about 75% of them-4500 female dogs of 6000 ones.

 

Yerevan Zoo will have a collegial management body-the Board


During the meeting of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, the draft decision on making changes in the Regulations of “Yerevan Zoological Garden” NCO was approved as well. A collegial management body-the Board_ is to be formed for more effective and transparent management of the Yerevan Zoo.
At the end of the regular meeting Yerevan Mayor, the heads of administrative districts of the capital and heads of the municipal subdivisions answered the questions of the Council of Elders. The next meeting of the Council is scheduled for March 19.
