Implementation of Babajanyan-Ashtarak road construction has started

10.02.2020

The dwellers of the blocks of flats in Babajanyan street where the segment of the new western bypass road being built here since 2017 were expressing their anxiety related to the construction. They were protesting against the new road because according to them, the new road would hinder their comfortable and safe movement in this area. It should be noted that last year Mayor Hayk Marutyan and the Chief Architect Arthur Meschyan met the dwellers of this area and arranged with them to make changes in the design project. They took into consideration citizens’ complaints and made changes in the project. However, some residents go on protesting against the construction.

“Together we had been working to find optimal solution. We took into account all complaints and as a result the cost of the project has increased by 900.000-1 million US dollars. The initial draft supposed cutting down trees, but today’s project includes it. Besides, the road is 20m away from the buildings. Actually, we have found the best solution said Deputy Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan.
There are 44 garages and similar constructions in the yard area the owners of which got compensation from the community in 2017 (approximately 3-4 million drams each). Consequently, now the garages are community-owned.
“So, the community is now dismantling its own property. This project has been maximally adapted both to the community’s interests and to the interest of local residents”, said Yerevan Mayor’s Press Secretary Hakob Karapetyan.
