At the regular meeting of Yerevan Council of Elders, before confirmation of the agenda the members of “Yelq” faction came up with a speech with which they considered unacceptable to include in the agenda 2 items authored by 3 members of “Yerkir Tsirani” (“Apricot country”) faction, particularly outlining that it is unacceptable to come up with the initiatives expressing disrespectful attitude towards the memory of Sparapet Vazgen Sargsyan. Accordingly, “Yelq” faction announced its decision to leave the meeting and abandoned the Assembly hall.
After the confirmation of the agenda the head of the faction which came up with the suggestion to rename the segment of Vazgen Sargsyan street (from State Musical Comedy Theater after H.Paronyan towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Justice) after Woodrow Wilson, as well as to install the monument to Woodrow Wilson in the park adjacent to V. Sargsyan street in Kentron administrative district. This suggestion arose hot discussions. During the discussion the members of “Republican Party” faction considered it unacceptable to rename the street after the RA National Hero Sparapet Vazgen Sargsyan after anyone else. The discussion was followed by the voting with 47 votes against and 3 votes for the suggestion. Thus, the suggestion made by “Yerkir Tsirani” faction was rejected. The Council of Elders also voted against the draft decision on “Installation of the memorial commemorating the victims of March 1 action” which was made by the mentioned above faction.
