The bus fleet of Yerevan is going to be replenished with 100 new buses meeting the international standards. On April 28, the invitation for tender for buses announced by the Municipality of Yerevan was published at the official website of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The procurement specialist of the Sustainable Urban Development Investment Program Arman Poghosyan informed that the competition is only in electronic format. The procurement competition is set at the EBRD Client e-Procurement Portal, so one should get registered to download the full competition project and participate. The competition is open, transparent and available.
The First Deputy Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan noted that totally 820 buses are needed to get proper transport services, however it’s rather difficult to purchase them at the same time. So, the program will be fulfilled stage by stage.
To realize transport reforms in the city the Municipality of Yerevan have had numerous meetings and discussions with the leading companies of the sphere. Due to the support of the EBRD and as a result of teamwork with international consulting specialists the procurement package with quality and technical requirements has been worked out.
According to the First Deputy Mayor, the procurement package consists of more than 200 pages, so it took time to work on it and to scrutinize it so that no problems could appear later.
In accordance with the project, 100 twelve-meter buses with low platform adapted for people with disabilities, with engines working on natural gas are to be purchased.
All the requirements are worked out in details and presented at the website.
Besides, a bus depot is to be constructed for the new buses, and the construction activities are to be started in May.
Four bus fleet depots are to be constructed in Yerevan to provide proper maintenance and operation of the buses. The depots will be provided with gas-filling stations.
Today, “Yerevan Bus” company serves 19 itineraries. Its fleet includes about 250 buses. However, even with the additional 100 buses, this fleet is not enough to replace nearly 800 minibuses operated in Yerevan daily.
The tender for new buses is open till June 12 of this year.
The New transport network of the capital will include 820 new comfortable buses and 101 trolleybuses. Instead of 111 itineraries working currently, it is planned to have 42 ones.
