Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, the RA Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan, the honorary chairman of “Golden apricot” Levon Sargsyan and numerous guests took part in the ceremony of opening the 14th international film festival “Golden apricot”. Like the previous year this year the program of the festival includes competition and non-competition films.

Of the 1100 films applied from 96 countries 47 films were selected to be shown in three competition days: international feature, international documentary and “Armenian panorama”.
In his greeting speech the director and founder of the film festival Harutyun Khachatryan stressing the importance of the festival in the cultural life of the capital expressed gratitude to Yerevan Municipality for permanent assistance in the organization and holding of the festival.
It should be noted that this year, in the context of proportional development of the capital, the geography of open-air film shows has expanded. Up to now the open-air film shows were held only in the area of Swan’s Lake and Charles Aznavour square, but this year the festival films will be shown in the area of Cascade, in administrative districts of Nor Nork, Malatia-Sebastia, in Lovers’ park and in Azatutyan square ( Freedom square).
Open-air concerts are also provided within the frames of the film festival. Every day, from 9 to 16 of July, from 21:00 till 23:00 nearby the “Moskva” cinema concerts of various jazz bands headed by popular jazzman Levon Malkhasyan will be held.
The 14th film festival started with the Hamo Beknazaryan’s film “Haspush”.
