Due to joint efforts of the Municipality of Yerevan and private companies wheelchair ramps are being constructed in the capital. To provide free movement of the people with disabilities the program of construction of wheelchair ramps in pedestrian crossings in the administrative districts has started since May, 2014. The previous year AMD 20 million was disbursed form the budget for this purpose and in 2014 on the initiative of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan AMD 40 million was disbursed from the community budget. Of the scheduled 200 ramps 100 ones have already been constructed in accordance with all established standards. The location of the ramps was selected jointly with the NGOs engaged in the problems of the disabled. Wheelchair tracks are to be constructed in the 23 streets being reconstructed by the Municipality program as well. Another program is being implemented as a result of the cooperation between the Municipality and the private sector. To assist the private companies the Municipality of Yerevan provides them with the drafts of wheelchair ramps construction. Of the inventories 500 private structures wheelchair access has been provided in 215 ones. Due to the construction of the ramps movement of people with children’s prams will also become more convenient. In accordance with the decision of the Council of Elders of Yerevan, the construction of wheelchair ramps is included in the obligatory conditions in the architectural and planning tasks given for the blocks of flats, multi-function and public buildings.
