Yerevan Mayor visits Armenian Apostolic Church of Saint Catherine in Saint Petersburg

The delegation headed by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan visited the Armenian Apostolic church of Saint Catherine in Saint Petersburg. The church was built during the reign of Catherine II at the initiative of the head of Armenian community, outstanding statesman Hovhannes Lazaryan and at the donations of the Armenian community. the church is the center of national culture for 25000 Armenians living in Saint Petersburg. Attaching particular importance to the role and significance of the Armenian church in preservation of Armenian traditions in Diaspora, mayor Taron Margaryan thanked the hieromonk Poghos Vardanyan for the contribution to uniting the Armenian community. As Poghos Vardanyan said the church which has three-century history plays an important role in uniting the Armenian community of Petersburg.
