Complex renovation financed from the city budget is going in the children and youth’s sport school of Shengavit. The sport centre was opened in the 1970s and has not been overhauled ever since so the project was vital. During the working visit to the area Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan and Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonyan watched the process of renovation.
“In 2020, on the apex of the pandemic we were looking for a place to stock the products provided for different social groups, to sort and pack them and we chose this place. At that time the director of the sport school informed that there was a project of renovation but it hadn’t been realized as the costs were actually significant. A decision was made to divide the project into stages and to renovate one part of it each year”, informed the Mayor.

According to the director of the sport school David Fahradyan, taking into account rather limited financial means of that time it became possible to renovate the roof and it was of big importance. It was planned to renovate only one sport hall however it was decided to renovate two more sport halls. Now the big gyms will be ready for all trainings as well as the lavatories and dressing rooms.
The trainings are actively going on despite the conditions.
The young athletes who recently won five gold, three silver and three bronze medals in “Mega Meet 2022” competition in Las-Vegas, USA shared their impressions with the Mayor.
The Mayor stressed that more attentions should be paid to sport development not only in Yerevan but throughout Armenia. People should be encouraged to take up sports since very childhood to live a healthier lifestyle. The idea of boosting healthy lifestyle brought to planning to create sport environments convenient for townspeople to do sports and workouts locally, not far from their homes.
12 Olympic sports are taught at Shengavit sport school. Due to renovations carried out and to be carried out in 2021, 2022 and 2023 comfortable conditions for trainings will be provided for 800-900 athletes.
