Yerevan municipal museums join “European Museums Night” action

The municipal museums of Yerevan-Yerevan History Museum, the historical and archaeological reserve museum “Erebuni”, Modern Art Museum, Karen Demirchyan museum and Fridjof Nansen museum joined the “European Museum Night” action on May 20.

On this day admission to municipal museums is free for townspeople and the guests of the capital.
At the initiative of the International Council of Museums, this year the International Museums Day and “European Museums Night” are held under the motto “ Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums”.
On May 20 the municipal museums work by the following schedule:
Yerevan History Museum is open from 10:30 till 24:00. At 20:00 a meeting with eminent composer Tigran Mansuryan is held. From 20:30 the letters sent from battlefields (1941-1945), from repression places and the letters of eminent figures of the 20th century will be read. During the event the visitors will have the opportunity to read, tell and write their own story. The letters, postcards and medals from the museum collection will be on display as well.
Historical and archaeological reserve-museum “Erebuni” is open from 10:30 till 24:00. At 18:00 the exhibition called “Painful history, Van: the lost capital” is open. At 19:00 the show of the national outfit of Van will be held.
From 19:30 till 20:30 the open-air concert “Songs and dances of Van” will be held with the participation of folk song and dance ensemble “Vostan”.
From 21:00 till 22:00 the open-air lectures on the theme of the archaeological heritage of Van will be performed. From 22:00 till 24:00 all the visitors can take part in the night tour about the citadel of Erebuni.
Modern Art Museum is open from 11:30 till 24:00. At 16:00 the photo exhibition of the photos by the director of Sergey Parajanov Museum Zaven Sargsyan will be held. At 18:00 the works by the pupils of the art school after Haykanush Danielyan will be held.
Karen Demirchyan Museum is open from 14:00 till 24:00. For art lovers the exhibition called “Museums samples are telling about the USSR” has been organized. Documentary films about the Soviet period will be shown as well.
Fridjof Nansen Museum is open from 14:00 till midnight. At 15:00 the meeting will be held with the director of the historical and archaeological reserve-museum “Erebuni” Gagik Gyurjyan. It should be noted that “Museums Night” was started in 2005 under the support of the ICOM, UNESCO and the European Council. The aim of this action is to increase the role of museums in the social and cultural life.
