Mayor Hayk Marutyan welcomes Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association Clement Voule
Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan welcomed the UNO Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association Clement Voule. The parties discussed the issues related to ensuring free assemblies in Yerevan, cooperation of municipal and state establishments in ensuring peaceful assemblies and in this context, to the organization of processes related to upcoming parliamentary elections
Mayor Hayk Marutyan noted that as a community Yerevan implements all its powers for the organization of both community and statewide elections ensuring the statutes of the RA Law “On freedom of assembly”.
The Mayor noted that owing to the revolution the election process in the country has become more transparent and democratic and this fact is proven by the elections for the Council of Elders of Yerevan held in September.
In his turn Mr. Clement Voule stressed the importance of democratic processes in the country expressing hope that the upcoming elections will confirm again that Armenia is coming out to a new level of democracy;
It should be noted that the UNO Special Rapporteur arrived in Armenia at the behest of the RA Government.
