During his working visit to Yerevan Zoo Mayor Taron Margaryan familiarized himself with the second stage of the program for the Zoo reconstruction and development. The program is financed from the city budget. Accompanied by Deputy Mayor Vahe Nikoyan and Deputy Mayor Aram Sukiasyan as well as the director of the Zoo Ruben Khachatryan Yerevan Mayor watched the process of implementation. Presenting the details of the work the persons in charge informed that the construction of the cages for wolves, bears and lions corresponding to international standards is going to be over. After the construction has been completed the area of the park will increase by 6000 sq m. A new observation deck for watching the animals from safe distance will be constructed too.
Mayor Taron Margaryan was shown the quarantine center for temporary keeping the animals which is being constructed within the frames of the Zoo reconstruction. The persons in charge noted that it is an important achievement indeed as from the very day of its foundation the Zoo hadn’t had a similar center.
According to the director of the Zoo, As a result of the work carried out within the second stage of the program the reconstruction of the Zoo will be completed and only development programs will be carried out further. Taking the opportunity the director thanked Taron Margaryan for the consistent work outlining that in the park founded in the 40s of the last century no reconstruction of such a big scale was implemented. Ruben Khachatryan also assured that owing to this reconstruction the present-day Yerevan Zoo had become one of the best recreation zones in the region and is also appreciated by the international experts of the sphere.
Attaching importance to the role and significance of the Zoo for proper organization of recreation of townspeople and guests of the capital Mayor Taron Margaryan instructed to keep the work under everyday control and to finish it on time.
It should be noted that by the initiative of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, since 2014 the first stage of reconstruction and development has started within the frames of which improvement activities were fulfilled. In parallel with the modernization of infrastructures, new cages were constructed, an isle for animals was created, a hippodrome and comfortable playgrounds were constructed including for children with locomotor disabilities.
