During the meeting with the journalists the head of the Department of General Education Gayane Soghomonyan presented the programs being carried out by the Municipality and told about the preparations for the new academic year. In particular, it was mentioned that in the academic year of 2013-2014 79 thousand pupils studied in 159 schools within the Municipality jurisdiction, 6858 of which left basic schools, 441 left secondary schools. The progress makes up 97 %, and the quality of education makes up 45 %. The head of the department stressed that 44 schools of the capital provide inclusive education for 1180 pupils with special needs. 250 special teachers, social workers, psychologists and logopedists worked with them. The admission of children to the first forms is still going on and the school books are being distributed. The pupils of the junior school receive textbooks free of charge. Regarding the issue of the pre-schooling establishments it was noted that in 2013-2014 8810 children were sent from the kindergartens subordinated to the Municipality to schools. Additional groups for 1500 children have been opened in the kindergartens of the administrative districts. In the current year overhauling activities have been carried out in 23 kindergartens. AMD 300 million was disbursed for purchasing tables, chairs, beds and other furniture. “Today we keep the children needing special conditions for education at the focus of our attention. 82 children attend 6 kindergartens where they get inclusive education. Another 89 children attend the kindergarten N 141 where 24-hour care is provided for them”, said Gayane Soghomonyan. She also mentioned that by the Mayor’s instruction, the quality, the conditions of storage and the expiration date of the food in kindergartens is under everyday control. The head of the department also noted that the purchasing of the goods for educational establishments is carried out in accordance with the RA law “On purchases” according to which there is a special procedure of purchasing goods when the announcements for participation in the competition are sent to the organizations and private entrepreneurs registered in “The center for purchase assistance” adjunct to the Ministry of Finances. According to the law, the organizations applied for the participation in the process send the clients an application for participation and the offer for the price of the goods.
