Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Aram Sukiasyan had a meeting with the delegation of the representatives of the educational establishments of Carrara, Italy to discuss cooperation proposals in the spheres of culture, education and other ones. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia Giovanni Ricciulli was present at the meeting too.
Greeting the guests on behalf of the Mayor of Yerevan and stressing the importance of the meeting Deputy Mayor Aram Sukiasyan said, “Carrara is the first sister-city of Yerevan: the evidence of our friendship is the marble statue “Hands of friendship” presented by your city which since 1964 has been telling our residents and the guests of the capital about it. The friendship memorandum signed in 1973 has tended to be strengthened especially after Armenia’s independence. This is expressed with your visits, with your presence at “Erebuni-Yerevan” celebrations, and I am sure that we will get a more practical format due to this visit”, said Aram Sukiasyan.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia Giovanni Ricciulli also expressed hope that such concrete initiatives will create a bridge for tight cooperation.
Conveying the warm greetings of the Mayor of Carrara Angelo Zubbani to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan the member of the delegation Ricardo Kanezzi stressed that the pre-conditions of proposals for possible cooperation in the spheres of education, culture, economy and environment protection had been discussed with the Mayor of Carrara before the visit. “Carrara is smaller than Yerevan and it has some standards typical for big cities. One of the most important institutes of Fine Arts of Italy is in Carrara and it is world-famous. Carrara is also one of the most important centers of marble mining and precession so the directions of cooperation can be various. On behalf of the Mayor of Carrara I’d like to say that there is great wish to develop and strengthen cooperation, to initiate proper partnership on the basis of our old friendship”, said Ricardo Kanezzi.
In respond to the educational and cultural cooperation proposal Deputy Mayor Aram Sukiasyan suggested initiating cooperation with the educational center after H. Kojoyan in Yerevan taking into account the specialization of the school.
The parties made an agreement to discuss the perspective directions of cooperation and to take all possible measures to work out programs.
