Kievyan bridge under renovation

The big bridge over the Hrazdan, or as it is commonly called Kievyan bridge, was put into operation in 1956. Renovation activities were carried out in the 1980s and in the 2000s. During the last years, numerous problems have appeared with the bridge. According to the acting head of Building and Improvement Department of Yerevan Municipality Tigran Geghamyan, it was found out that many of the problems are caused by the drainage system malfunction. The project of the bridge renovation started in 2023 in two stages. Both inner and outer structures of the bridge are under renovation. The asphalt cover is to be renovated as well. The specialists haven’t decided yet whether the bridge will be closed partially or fully. However, persons in charge state that they will do their best to cause minimal inconvenience of the population and to ensure the quality of work. The underground pedestrian passage will be fully renovated as well to make it possible for people to bypass the bridge.
Currently the staircases leading to the canyon are being renovated, the cast iron railings will also be repaired and processed. The total contract value of construction of the Kievyan bridge is about 502 million drams. The complete renovation will take about half a year. At the end, the most important transportation hub of Yerevan, the 60 m high and 351 m long bridge will become safer.
