Cultural Yerevan in cultural capital of RF: Mayor’s visit to Saint Petersburg is over

On the second day of the official visit, the members of Yerevan delegation visited Piskaryovski Memorial Complex to render the memory tribute to the victims of the Siege of Leningrad. In 186 common graves there are 420 thousand residents of Leningrad and 70 thousand soldiers defending Leningrad. Mayor Hayk Marutyan and Saint Petersburg Vice-Governor Anna Mityanina, together with the members of the delegation also visited the memory Alley where they laid flowers at the memorial to the Armenians participating in the battle for Leningrad. Yerevan mayor left an entry in the Book of Honorary Visitors.

The representatives of Yerevan delegation rendered memory tribute to the great Armenian composer Komitas. The monument to Komitas was erected in Vasileostrovski region of Saint Petersburg within the frames of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The delegation headed by Yerevan mayor Hayk Marutyan visited the Armenian Apostolic Church of Saint Catherine. The church built in the 18th century on the initiative of the leader of the Armenian community, eminent statesman Hovhannes Lazaryan and on the donations of the Armenian community, is the cultural and spiritual centre of the Armenians living in Saint Petersburg.

The autobiographical mono-performance of actress and director Narineh Grigoryan was held within the scope of the cultural events. The performance “My family is in my suitcase” was performed on the stage of the Bryantsev Young Spectator’s Theater. The author’s childhood during Artsakh war was reflected in the play.

During the official reception organized on behalf of Yerevan Mayor the results of Yerevan Days in Saint Petersburg event were summarized. The acting Governor of Saint Petersburg Alexander Beglov, members of the Parliament, figures of art, science and culture, representatives of the Armenian community took part in the reception.
Within the frames of the official reception, the Saint Petersburg philanthropist Hrachya Poghosyan handed Mayor Hayk Marutyan the flag of Yerevan which had been on the International Space Station “Mir” for 195 days on the event of the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan foundation.
