The 3rd meeting of the professional working group for public transport improvement was held in Yerevan City Hall. During the meeting the representative of the WYG International consulting company John Cocloag presented the reports on the alternative repeated studies for “Pubic transport network version” and “Passengers flows in bus route network”.
The main proposals in the reports referred to the optimization of the transport network operated in Yerevan through up to triple reduction of the route number. The reports also establish new standards for bus stops and parking areas. To specify the availability of the proposals Yerevan Deputy Mayor Vahe Nikoyan conducting the meeting offered the representatives of the RA Road Police to submit professional estimates for the acceptability and feasibility of the mentioned standards.
“We need to carry out essential discussion and to study the proposals made by the consultant thoroughly. They are mainly based on comprehensive studies, however in this issue we can’t base only on the professional opinion of the consultants. We must additionally make sure that the proposals will be the best of possible versions. We have started a highly responsible process the effectiveness of which depends on our constructive and active discussions so I expect it of you”, referring to the members of the working group stressed its leader, Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Vahe Nikoyan.
It should be noted that up today the professional working group has already held two meetings during which the consulting company submitted the proposals for general possibilities of optimization, the new public transport network, the procedures of purchasing related to integrated price and system of tickets.
