There are 19 libraries, 5 museums – the Yerevan History Museum, the Contemporary Art Museum, Karen Demirchyan Museum, Historical and Archeological and “Erebuni” Historical and Archeological reserve-museums, 3 theaters – Drama Theater after Hr. Ghaplanyan, Young Spectators’ Theater and “Mher Mkrtchyan” Artistic Theater functioning under the Municipality subordination.
Under the municipality subordination there also function 25 schools, 17 cultural centers and aesthetic centers, “Little singers of Armenia” philharmonic and the children’s philharmonic after Yu. Bakhshyan, “Yerevan” brass band and “Hay Art” CJSC, as well as the Zoological Garden. Within the frames of the New Year celebrations measures for children were held from January 1 to 10.
On the days of Francophonia in Armenia free evenings of French music, poetry, exhibitions, shows of feature films and cartoons, as well as it is provided to open a French center in the Central Library after Av. Isahakyan by the end of the year.
Within the frames of National Library Week various measures, literature and music evenings, meetings with famous writers were from April 12 to 19.
The ceremony of solemn closing was ended in the Yerevan History Museum where a number of library employees were awarded with honorary diplomas. On May 1 an open day called “Music for all” was held in the concert hall after Aram Khachatryan where musical and art schools of Yerevan took part.
In 2011 the pupils of the musical and art schools of Yerevan participated in a number of international and pan-republican contests such as “Veratsnund” (“Renaissance”), “New names”, “Delphic games” international contests, the pan-republican festivals of young pianists after A.Babajanyan, of National musical instruments and of individual performers of folk songs, the pan-republican children’s and youth theatrical festival called “ Pomegranate seed”, the contest-festivals of young violinists and cellists after A.Gabrielyan and S.Aslamazyan.
A number of festive and jubilee measures were held including:
• A concert program dedicated to Maternity and Beauty Day, which was organized in “Cascade” complex, presenting to the townspeople a number of festive events;
• On June 1, on the event of the International Children’s Day various measures were held in Azatutyan square: a two-day contest of chalk drawing, performances of children’s song and dance groups, circus performances, theatre performances of fairy tales. A lot of children participated in the events and got presents.
• On June 6 a festival of young composers was held dedicated to Aram Khachatryan birthday: the participant children visited the Pantheon after Komitas, performed a concert program in Aram Khachatryan home-museum, in the end of the concert they received diplomas and prizes.
