Higher educational institutions of Yerevan
At present 90 institutes of higher education are functioning in Republic of Armenia. Large majority (71) of these institutes are located in Yerevan. 19 institutes of higher education out of 71 are state institutes and 52 institutes are private institutes. In 2008-2009 academic year according to data released by National Statistical Service of RA there are 114399 students from which 91806 students are studying at the institutes of higher education in the capital. 16304 students studying at Yerevan institutes get their higher education for free while 75502 students pay for their studies.
In 2008, the teaching staff of the institutes of higher education of Yerevan consisted of 10051 members (the teaching staff of all institutes of RA consisted of 12169 members) from which 6976(8283) were full-time lecturers, 1553 (1958) were part-time lecturers who combine this position with other jobs and 1522 (1928) worked for hourly wage.
In 2008, the number of alumnus of the institutes of higher education of the capital has increased by 6137 comparing with the previous year from which 4591 alumnus (998 more than the previous year) studied for free and 16191 alumnus (5139 more than the previous year) paid for their studies.
