After capital renovation Yerevan kindergarten N160 opens its doors for more than 160 pupils

Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan together with the acting resident representative of UNDP Dmitry Maryasin was present at re-opening ceremony of the kindergarten N160 in Kanaker Zeytun administrative district. After capital renovation this kindergarten which has about 50-year history has opened its doors for ore than 160 pupils. The renovation was financed by Yerevan Municipality and UNDP and within the “De-Risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits” program energy efficient solutions were used in parallel with comfortable conditions in the kindergarten. Mayor Taron Margaryan walked about the premises, familiarized himself with the work done and conditions provided for children’s education and upbringing, talked to the kids. The persons in charge informed that after the renovation the expenses for gas and electricity in the pre-school would be significantly reduced. Due to completely modernized and thermo-insulated roof, new heating systems as well as installation of energy efficient lighting systems the amounts to be paid for lighting and heating of the kindergarten will decrease by 50 %. Taking the opportunity the director of the pre-school Sona Shamakhyan conveyed the gratitude of the parents and personnel of the kindergarten to Yerevan Mayor for permanent assistance and care towards pre-schooling establishments. Mayor Taron Margaryan in his turn assured once again that such programs would be continued and comfortable conditions would be provided in al kindergartens of Yerevan.
Answering the journalists’ questions Mayor Taron Margaryan attaching particular importance to the projects implemented jointly with the Armenian office of the UNO Development Programs, once again stressed that the Municipality is open and willing for cooperation. Yerevan Mayor expressed gratitude to all the partners who joined and join the Municipality programs and contribute to making Yerevan more well-arranged, beautiful and comfortable.
“It is really delightful that partner organizations participate in the programs initiated by Yerevan Municipality. This is another successful program initiated in teamwork with the Armenia office of the UNDP which once again proves that the cooperation established between the two structures is effective. It is particularly delightful for us that this time the cooperation was aimed at renovation of the kindergarten as you know that during the recent years we attach particular importance to modernization and equipment of educational and cultural establishments particularly pre-schools. At least during the last 5-6 years we consistently worked to improve the conditions in municipal kindergartens. I assure that all the initiated programs will be continued and we will do our best so that there will be no badly-arranged kindergarten in Yerevan in the coming five years”, stressed the Mayor and added that the financial agreement aimed at energy efficiency was signed between Yerevan Municipality and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development within the frames of which 40 more kindergartens will be renovated by the first stage and all necessary conditions will be provided for our children.
The acting resident representative of UNDP Dmitry Maryasin in his turn attached importance to the cooperation with Yerevan Municipality and noted that it is really successful. He also noted that Yerevan Municipality is a reliable partner which makes it possible to continue joint projects.
It should be noted that the kindergarten has six groups. Since 2000 it has been attended by children with special needs as well.
