“Yerevan summer 2018”: Spartakiada games of people with disabilities in Azatutyan square

Yerevan Municipality and the Armenian National Paralympic Committee have organized a sport event-Spartakiada games of people with disabilities-within the frames of “Yerevan summer 2018” program of three-month programs.

The head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Culture Ruben Hovhannisyan, the head of Social Welfare Ruzanna Zakaryan, the head of sport division Yuri Mamikonyan the head of family,women and children’s rights protection Ida Khachatryan and the president of the Armenian National Paralympic Committee, the president of “Pyunik” Republican Union of Disabled Sportsmen Hakob Abrahamyan were present at the opening of the competitions. Greeting the participants of the Spartakiada the persons in charge for the sphere noted that Yerevan Municipality keeps the problems of people with special needs at the focus of particular attention trying to solve them and to provide their active recreation by organizing sport events.
One of the aims of this already traditional initiative is to provide summer recreation for people with disabilities trying to prove that these people are full members of our society. We’d like to note that among the sport equipment granted by Yerevan Municipality to municipal sport schools in 2017 there was also sport equipment for people with special needs.
90 disabled sportsmen took part in this Spartakiada, which is 50 people more than the previous year. Besides basketball, table tennis, show down, wheelchair race and chess this year volleyball, arm wrestling, Bocha and powerlifting were added in the list. The sportsmen gained best results were awarded with diplomas and prizes.
