RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan were hosted at the home-workshop of the RA People’s Artist, Laureate of the Arm.SSR State Prize, Honorary Citizen of Yerevan Hakob Hakobyan, familiarized themselves with the unique and rarely exhibited works of art created by the painter.

During the conversation with the artist’s widow and his daughter the President and the Mayor spoke about the events planned on the occasion of Hakob Hakobyan’s 100th jubilee. Referring to the importance of preservation, exhibition and popularization of the artist’s artistic legacy, his relatives outlined the problem of having no museum. Yerevan Mayor claimed that the community is observing a number of locations where the museum can be opened. According to Hrachya Sargsyan, the artistic legacy deserves being displayed, so they should join efforts to create a relevant cultural centre in Yerevan.
The members of the artist’s family expressed desire to see Hakobyan’s sculptures in bronze version to be installed in Yerevan and informed that one of the artist’s sculptures is right in the yard of the building. The Mayor informed that next year the yard will be well-arranged and a special area dedicated to the artist will be created. The artist’s widow, Ms Marie expressed hope that preservation and popularization of cultural values will be included in urban development programs of Yerevan.
A number of other issues concerning the family were discussed during the warm talk of the President and the Mayor with the artist’s family.
