The RA President Serzh Sargsyan together with Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, other top-level officials, numerous townspeople and guests of the capital was present at the ceremony of foundation of the new figure skating school to be opened in the capital. The three times Olympic champion, many times champion of the world and Europe in figure skating, a public and state figure of Russia, the delegate of the RF State Duma Irina Rodnina took a direct and active part in the issue of realizing the idea of building the figure skating school in the land plot of 1 hectare at Admiral Isakov 27/8 in Yerevan. Irina Rodnina expressed willingness to assist in the issue of figure skating development in Armenia as soon as it has been put into operation. The sport school will be constructed by personal means of the general manager of «MonArch» company of Moscow Sergey Hambardzumyan, Armenian by nation, and will be granted to the city of Yerevan. The details of the project have been presented to the President of the Republic, to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and those present at the event. The total costs of the construction will make up about USD 5 million. It is planned to complete the construction in short time, in the autumn of 2015.
In his greeting speech addressed to those present Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan expressed confidence that the new sport school will promote development of figure skating in Armenia and will become one of the favourite kinds of sport for the people of Yerevan. «We can already state that Yerevan will soon have a figure skating school corresponding to all modern standards which will serve to everybody. It is nice that the many times Olympiad, world and Europe champion, world-known Irina Rodnina took a direct part in this project.. This is one of the best examples of successful cooperation between the Municipality of Yerevan and the private sector which proves once again that in case of necessity our compatriots engaged in business undertake responsibility and show willingness to take part in the programs of republican and community significance. On behalf of the residents of Yerevan I express gratitude to you, Mister President for your consistence in this issue as a result of which this project important not only for Yerevan but for all the Republic as well can be realized. Taking the opportunity I express my gratitude to Mrs Rodnina too for her willingness to contribute to figure skating development in Armenia. I also express my gratitude to businessman Sergey Hambardzumyan for this really patriotic action directed at the health protection of the generation and spreading the idea of healthy lifestyle», said Taron Margaryan. Taron Margaryan, Irina Rodnina and Sergey Hambardzumyan signed the trilateral memorandum announcing the construction of figure skating school and one copy of the memorandum was laid in the foundation of the school.
