Youth volunteers program “I am the guide of my city”

At the initiative of Yerevan Municipality tourism unit and in association with “Armenian guides guild” organization the program “I am the guide of my city ” started in the capital. Within the scope of the program the students of tourism departments and young people interested in the sphere can get a month training, get acquainted with the profession of a guide, visit a number of city museums, get appropriate knowledge of Yerevan history and culture as well as can work as volunteers in the places of tourism interest and assist tourists visiting Yerevan.
Greeting those present Yerevan Mayor’s Assistant, tourism sphere coordinator Maria Baraghamyan congratulated the participants and thanked them for getting interested in the program.
“Yerevan Municipality tourism unit has been working for a long time on working out this program which is starting officially today. We are planning to make the program annual, and in fact the participants of this year will become ambassadors of this program representing Yerevan and communicating with the guests of our capital. Taking into account the fact that this year is a historic and jubilee one for our republic and capital, as participants of this program you will take part in the events dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan foundation and in other initiatives and festivals. “I am the guide of my city” program is a good platform for the young people who choose the profession of guide and want to become participants of city events. Our aim is to present young people necessary touristic information about Yerevan”, stressed Maria Baraghamyan.
Of more than 150 applications we selected 40 participants who are fluent in foreign languages and are willing to assist voluntarily in presenting correct information about Yerevan. The participants will get necessary knowledge and skills form the program.
It should be noted that the three-week trainings will be delivered by the president of “Armenian guides guild” Lia Bakhshinyan, by the director of the center “International tourism” of Yerevan State University of Linguistics and Social Sciences after V. Bryusov Marine Hayrapetyan, the Rector of Armenian Institute of Tourism Robert Minasyan, by the ICOM National Committee of Armenia Ani Avagyan, the director of Yerevan History Museum Armine Sargsyan, the head of excursion unit of the museum Marina Khachmanukyan.
“This initiative carried out for the first time is unique and we must express gratitude to the tourism unit for it. During your trainings you will get important historical information about Yerevan and learn the main principles of work. I am very glad that young people are so interested in the sphere of tourism. Interesting and essential trainings are waiting for us”, said the president of “Armenian guides guild” Lia Bakhshinyan.
The participants of the program were provided with information materials about the city tourism. They also visited Yerevan History Museum where familiarized themselves with the samples, got necessary tourist information.
