Social assistance should benefit to solution of problems of Yerevan population: Yerevan Mayor
The regular meeting of the Council for Social Support adjunct to the mayor has been held. The Council functions to contribute to the solution of social problems and is among the voluntary powers assigned to the mayor.
Seven administrative districts submitted 12 program offers aimed at social support. The head of Children’s and Social Protection Department of Yerevan Municipality Lusine Hovhannisyan marked that before including the issues into the agenda, social workers visited homes and outlined the major problems.
The Chairman of the Council, Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan stressing the effectiveness of structural reforms in the social sphere attached importance to cooperation with residents.
“Before allotting social assistance we should not only specify the needs but also find out to what extent the support can benefit in solving major problems of citizens. The role of social workers is of high importance in this issue”, stressed the Mayor.
Members of Council of Elders presented proposals related to the projects. The discussion resulted in an allotment of social assistance to 10 families. The project involves participants of military activities, disabled people, families with many children. The financial means will be directed to health care and education. Two applications need additional study.
