Cleaning of riverbeds has started

20.03.2024

Cleaning of riverbeds has started in Yerevan. The process is fulfilled every spring. Special machinery is used for this process. The main accumulations usually appear around detached houses. People dump any kind of garbage into the riverbeds, and it causes rotting of water and stench.
The head of Communal Services Department Arsen Karoyan informs that the cleaning usually takes a month. The riverbeds are fully cleaned up from all garbage. Currently the process is going on in Avan and Erebuni districts. Besides the Vokhchaberd and the Getar rivers, the adjacent canals are being cleaned as well. In some parts the cleaning is carried out by hand. Every year approximately 4000 m3 of garbage are removed to the dump.
Riverbeds are cleaned up to ensure water flows as water resources of the city are of vital environmental importance.
Although the city authorities constantly urge residents not to dump their wastes into the rivers and even set a fine of 50.000 drams for dumping wastes in inappropriate areas, it won’t help.
People fail to realize the hazard of such pollution.
Riverbeds are also cleaned during the year. Approximately 38 million drams are allotted from the community budget to carry out cleaning processes.
