The full marathon run held in Yerevan for the first time is dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of the capital

The first full marathon run dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan foundation was held in the capital for the first time. “Yerevan Marathon” event was organized by joint efforts of Yerevan Municipality, “Arm Marathon” sport and educational foundation and “Coca-Cola Hellenic Armenia” company with the assistance of the Armenian office of the UNO.
The participants of different age groups competed in 5 distances: 42.2 km, 21.1 km, 11.5 km, 5 km and 1 km. The shortest distance was provided for children. Both individuals and different local and international organizations, sport clubs took part in the run. People with disabilities also ran a distance.
The run started at Shahumyan square, passed Republic square, along Nalbandyan, Vadanants, Al. Manukyan, Av.Isahakyan streets and Cascade complex then continued towards Moskovyan street, M.Saryan, Leo, Paronyan,Dzorapi streets up to Davtashen bridge, along Hrazdan bridge, Haghtanak bridge, Argishti, Italy, V.Sargsyan, Abovyan, Pushkin streets and finished at the spot of start.
The track was measured by the Association of Marathons and Distant Races (AIMS) and got the international status. The main part of the amount generated from fees for run will be used for charity. According to the organizers, about 2500 professional and amateur runners from more than 30 countries took part in the marathon. The participants won first three places got medals and awards. There were also 5 team awards- Best participating team, Biggest children’s team, Fastest team, Fastest children’s team and Team with best supporters.
