Yerevan Mayor, the president of Yerevan Chess federation Taron Margaryan was present at the opening of the 2nd international chess tournament “Yerevan open at the Chess Academy of Armenia. About 150 chess players from 13 countries among which are 20 international grandmasters and 25 FIDE masters are participating in the tournament held from 18 to 27 of October.
During the opening ceremony on the event of opening of the 2nd tournament Yerevan Mayor particularly said, “Many of you know that in our country which has rich chess traditions, all conditions have been created particularly in Yerevan for discovering new names in world chess. In this context local and international tournaments and championships are organized which I am sure, contributes to chess development and promotion. Particularly during the recent years international festivals and contests, Olympiads and championships are held in Yerevan more and more often and their organization is certainly a honour for us. International chess tournaments play particular role among them. Therefore, you can be sure that Yerevan welcomes you and cordially wishes you new success in international chess tournament “Yerevan open”, said Taron Margaryan and announced the start of “Yerevan open”.
The vice president of Armenian Chess Federation Smbat Lputyan in his turn expressed gratitude to Yerevan Mayor, president of Yerevan Chess Federation Taron Margaryan for the organization and holding of the 2nd international chess tournament “Yerevan open”.
It should be noted that the main organizer of the tournament is Yerevan Chess Federation. The tournament is held by Swiss system in 9 tours. The ceremony of opening was accompanied by festive concert.
