The initial working meeting for the implementation of “EU for Yerevan: solar community” program was held in Yerevan City Hall. The aims of the program, its plans and expected results were discussed during the meeting. It should be noted that the program will be carried out by means of the grant disbursed by the EU within the frames of “Covenant of Mayors” initiative. Yerevan Deputy Mayor, the head of the coordinating council of the program Vahe Nikoyan, the representative of the International Aid and Cooperation unit of the EU delegation in Armenia Andrea Baggioli, the head of the support group of CoM-DeP Ian Vaanders, the head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Development and Investment Programs Tigran Sargsyan as well as the members of the coordinating council and the working group for the program realization took part in the meeting.
Greeting the guests Vahe Nikoyan stressed that Yerevan Municipality attaches importance to the cooperation with the European Union and specialized structures and noted that during the recent years Yerevan Municipality pays particular importance to energy efficiency increase.
“At the end of 2017 the grant agreement for “Yerevan-solar community” program realization was signed between Yerevan Municipality and the EU. The aim of the agreement is stimulation of energy saving and energy efficiency increase, reduction of costs for population and greenhouse gas emissions. Attaching importance to the implementation of the program and cooperation with the EU we hope that it will be long-term for the benefit of Yerevan development and improvement of the quality of life of our residents”, stressed Vahe Nikokyan.
“EU for Yerevan: Solar community” program involves 90 blocks of flats. It is planned to set photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the buildings which will provide generation of energy necessary for energy supply of the common premises of the buildings (lighting of staircases and yard areas as well as energy supply of elevators). The lighting of these areas will be provided with LED lamps. Accordingly, there will be 100% model of reusable energy sources in the buildings. The representative of the International Aid and cooperation unit of the EU delegation in Armenia Andrea Baggioli in his turn stressing the importance of the program being implemented in Yerevan wished success in the implementation.
“The EU carries out numerous programs in Armenia among which are the programs aimed at energy efficiency increase. I am glad that Yerevan has got the possibility to realize this program”, said Andrea Baggioli.
During the meeting the head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Development and Investment Programs Tigran Sargsyan presenting the details of the program said that as a result of using reusable energy sources and energy saving the costs of energy and greenhouse gas emissions related to them will be reduced in blocks of flats. Within the frames of the program it is planned to show assistance to the management bodies of blocks of flats (condominiums) as well as to expand the cooperation between private sector and community. During the meeting the participants discussed and confirmed the working schedule and the rest of details for the realization of “EU for Yerevan: Solar community” program. After the meeting the seminar-discussion was held on the theme “Actions for reusable energy sources and energy efficiency in blocks of flats”.
