Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan’s Congratulatory Message on World Theatre Day
Dear Yerevanians, dear representatives of theatrical world!
I’d like to congratulate all of us on the World Theatre Day. There is no doubt that theatre plays a special role in the cultural life of Yerevan.
Townspeople and guests of our city, eminent actors and stage directors, cloakroom attendants and people in charge of technical maintenance – thanks to them buildings get the honour to be called theatres and become evaluated. These cultural centres fill the city with spirit and vitality, adding cultural features to architecture.
Yerevan Municipality tends to make theatrical life more active, and with this aim several projects will be implemented this year. Approximately 20 plays of 5 world-famous contemporary playwrights are going to be published. In addition, an open grant competition entitled “Theatric Yerevan” will be announced within the frames of which theatres and theatrical initiatives will get financial support to stage recently translated new plays.
I’d like to assure you that cultural life in our city, including theatrical life, will be continually improved both in quality and in volume. Only this way we can rank Yerevan among leading cultural cities of the world which is our common goal.
