This year the process of snow cleaning in Yerevan will be fully provided by the communal company entitled “Waste Removal and Sanitary Cleaning of Yerevan”. The company got 8 new arrivals – multifunctional snowplows. The new snowplows have two dumps – front and back.
Previously, snow cleaning in Avan and Nor Nork administrative cleaning used to be carried out by a contractor company. Technical re-equipment makes it possible for the community to undertake the whole process. Currently, the municipal cleaning organization possesses 124 units of machinery 62 of which can be used for snow cleaning.

According to Yerevan Mayor’s Advisor Kamo Areyan, possessing such machinery prior to winter is highly important to provide proper services. At the same time it is of not less significance to use all communal facilities with care as everything the capital possesses has been purchased at the cost of community budget.

Up to now 3400 m3 of sand and salt have been stored and 7200m3 more are being stored. The machinery and snowplows will be distributed to administrative districts taking into account the volumes of precipitation.
Kamo Areyan informed that operative headquarters will be created in administrative districts to monitor the activities, to register alarm calls and ensure timely respond. Such a coordination centre will be formed in the City Hall as well.
It is important to know that snow cleaning of streets is carried out by the communal company, but the areas surrounding properties are under the responsibility of economy entities. The decision was made by the Council of Elders in 2009. Generally, the improvement and cleaning up of the areas adjacent to economy entities are within their liabilities. This practice is used in all other countries.
The Municipality also urges drivers to switch to winter tyres to exclude accidents and to serve as an example of public responsibility. Townspeople’s caring attitude to the city is highly important in all seasons. Caring attitude should be seen in all spheres of city economy – cleaning, traffic, safety.
