During the weekly working conference in Yerevan City Hall Mayor Taron Margaryan referred to the defects in the work of some subdivisions in the sphere of urban development particularly pointing out the cases related to the monument building at Amiryan 2. In particular, the Mayor demanded to explain the noise raised round the dismantling of the facade of the two-storey building started at Amiryan 2 on February 20.
"There is an impression that during the recent period some services of the city authorities aren't able to work properly at all and this fact causes fair discontent of the society. We feel obvious lack of trust of the population in city authorities in the issue of preservation of monument buildings and old Yerevan's architectural and historical values in general. And I consider this situation to be caused by your improper work. We have a lot to do in this regard so as we can be able to restore the trust of our co-citizens. We can achieve it only due to firm position of corresponding services and proper activity", stressed Mayor Taron Margaryan.
The Mayor was reported that in 1980 an outhouse was built attached to the facade of the two-storey building of the men's gymnasium built in 1896 which is considered to be a cultural monument. They explained that the issue of dismantling this outhouse which is of no cultural value had been determined before.
The persons in charge also noted that the issue of keeping the outhouse had been discussed many times among professionals, including the RA Ministry of Culture, and with the aim of outlining and evaluating the facade of the monument building of gymnasium it was determined to dismantle the outhouse which is of no cultural value. It was mentioned that at the moment these activities are temporally stopped to discuss the issue additionally with the Ministry of Culture.
However, the presented explanation didn't satisfy the Mayor, who pointed out that public should be informed of any urban development solution to be carried out in Yerevan in advance so that the processes were free from misunderstanding.
"In many cases the problems appeared had been accumulated for many years and the society is to be informed about it. All large urban development investment projects are to be submitted to public discussion and the documentation is to be given in a more precise form", said Taron Margaryan and claimed that no infringement would be permitted regarding the monument building at Amiryan 2, and those who attempt will be reprimanded.
The Department of External Design and Advertising was assigned to inventory and dismantle the advertisement boards located at the pavements and hindering the movement of pedestrians.
«Sometimes it seems that that while giving the permission on advertisement boards placement the fact of their hindering people's movement is not taken into account. But our demand in this regard is firm. But this demand is often ignored and the blame lies mainly with the persons in charge who are obliged to be on the spot and to supervise the placement of advertisement boards in proper places but not where the owners want them to be.
Inventory the advertisement boards hindering pedestrians movement and take corresponding measures to dismantle and replace them in appropriate places», said Taron Margaryan.
It reported that the previous week 5 cases of illegal construction and land occupation had been registered. 3 reports on violation of the terms of building sites organization were drawn up. The control over illegal street vending is going on too. 7 non-working stalls were revealed and dismantled. 43 records on waste dumping in inappropriate places were drawn up as a result of everyday control. The Mayor instructed to axtivate the work.
The head of the Department of General Education reported that the supervision over municipal pre-schooling, educational and cultural establishments is going on. Besides, unexpected inspections to schools and kindergartens are carried out. The Mayor instructed to go on tight everyday control.
Concerning starting the process of landscaping in the capital it was reported that preparations had already started. Necessary bushes and flowers are being imported. Sanitary tree pruning starts on March 1. It was instructed to inform the society about the process to avoid unnecessary talks.
