Electric transport as a public transport means has been in use in Yerevan for more than 70 years. Last update of trolleybus fleet was made in 2008 with the trolleybuses of “LIAZ” make. Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan visited the depot to get to know about the problems on the spot.
Nearly seven decades later the fleet of “Electric Transport of Yerevan” company will be replenished with new trolleybuses. 15 new and modern vehicles purchased by community means will be in Yerevan in a few days.
The Mayor claims that the authorities are going to add to the number of trolleybuses so that more electric vehicles were operated in Yerevan. Trolleybuses are considered to be eco-friendly vehicles. The Mayor is sure that the future belongs to electric transport and making changes is vital.
There are five trolleybus routes in Yerevan, and approximately 40 vehicles are on the routes daily. Although the vehicles are rather worn out they are still preferrable transportation means for many people. New trolleybuses will make it possible to serve more routes.
Mayor Sargsyan stressed that structural changes are necessary as well. The condition of facilities is also unsatisfactory.  Financial means are to be allotted to modernize and improve the trolleybus depot and the working conditions of people working there.
The Mayor also introduced the new head of “Electric Transport of Yerevan” company Sargis Bejanyan to the staff and expressed confidence that joining their efforts and working in team they will realize all anticipated projects.
