For the first time in Armenia an underground crossing has been equipped with the elevator for disabled people

As a result of the cooperation between Yerevan Municipality and the private sector, the underground crossing at Isahakyan 22/10 has been equipped with the elevator provided for people with special needs. Yerevan Mayor's Assistant Samvel Mertarjyan and the head of the Department of Urban Development and Land Control of Yerevan Municipality Hayk Asatryan on the spot familiarized themselves with the work done. The elevator was first tested by the president of "Unison" NGO of disabled people Armen Alaverdyan, who expressed his satisfaction with another initiative aimed at making the capital more available for people with disabilities and noted that Yerevan Municipality paid serious attention to the problems of the sphere and due to this consistency those problems are gradually decreasing. It should be noted that thе elevators are also accessible for prams. Special notice-boards will be stuck about the elevators and the security employees of the particular area will help the people who will need help in using the elevator.
To make the capital more available for people with locomotor disabilities the process of wheelchair ramps construction is going on in the capital, besides,10 special buses equipped with elevators have been operated in the capital since winter. The number of such buses will soon be increased. Taking into account that a trade center is to be opened in the mentioned above underground crossing, WC for disabled people has been built here and another elevator between storeys has been built installed too. Yerevan Mayor's Assistant Samvel Mertarjyan pointed out that by the instruction of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan wheelchair access constriction is an obligatory condition in all new urban development projects.
