Aortic valve replacement operation has been done in Nork-Marash MC for the first time in Armenia

At the behest of the municipal medical centre of Nork –Marash, the eminent Russian doctor, academician Bagrat Alekyan is in Yerevan.

The surgery on the aortal valve was the only chance to save the life of the 80-year-old patient. Taking into account the age of the patient and his diseases open surgery was contraindicated.
Thanks to doctor Alekyan, his team and physicians of Nor-Marash MC, the transcatheter aortic valve replacement has been conducted.
“The aortic valve the perimeter of which is to be 20-30 mm was narrowed up to 6 mm with the patient. A cylinder was implanted and later removed, and the vessel got expanded and opened the valve”, explained the cief specialist of the RF Ministry of Health for X-Ray endovascular diagnostics ad treatment, cardiac surgeon Bagrat Alekyan. The operation lasted for approximately 3 hours. The patient is to stay in the clinic for 1-3 days.
Such an operation was performed for the first time in the world in 2002 in France. Nowadays, up to 90 thousand such operations are performed annually.
According to the director of the medical centre Mikael Adamyan, the patient won’t need new invasions at least for 7-10 years.
The medical personnel of Nork-Marash clinic is currently getting trainings. In near future it is planned to perform such closed surgeries independently.
