The municipal libraries of Yerevan are being enriched with new pieces of literature. This year 12632 books of 482 names have been purchased.
Yerevan Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan informed that the budget of Yerevan anticipated for 2023 will include procurement of double quantity of books, and 40 million drams was allotted for this purpose.
New publications of Armenian and foreign classical literature, specialized and bright books for kids, contemporary literature: the books were selected taking into consideration readers’ preferences.
New books are vital, as library funds include many old ones that were handed down from generation to generation. The library fund has been updated due to the work of five publishing houses in Yerevan. Besides replenishing library funds Yerevan Municipality also initiated a complex program of modernization of libraries to increase the quality of services. Avinyan added that currently the city authorities are working in the direction of involvement of the community libraries in “ELGRAD” e-management system to provide all services required.
Today, the Municipality is working on several projects that will boost development of libraries. These special nooks in the city will become important cultural junctions.
