Within the frames of the three-month program “Yerevan summer 2015” the exhibition called “Celebrities in the eyes of Armenian photographers” has opened in “Hay-Art” cultural center.

The works by 20 Armenian photographers of the late IX and early XX centuries were presented at the exhibition. These are the works by the Abdullah brothers, Antoin Sevryugin, Yusuf Karshi, Arto Gavuk, Ara Guler, Hovhannes Kyurkchyan, Gegham Tarverdyan, Andranik Kochar who lived outside Armenia, had great contribution to the cultural life of different countries and gained an international recognition.
Collected by Andranik and Vahan Kochar (father and son artists), the photos, depicting the authors’ life and work, were later compiled in the book of “Armenian Photographers” under the sponsorship of the former Prime-Minister Andranik Margaryan.
The deputy mayor Aram Sukiasyan was present at the exhibition opening and familiarized with the works. Estimating this exhibition as the important achievement of Yerevan cultural life, the deputy mayor emphasized that such projects would be supported in future also.
“In future we are going to found photo-gallery in the capital, where would be presented not only this exposition, but also the works of the other Armenian modern art-workers”.
Thanking the municipal authorities for permanent attention to culture and new and important initiatives, Vahan Kochar emphasized that most of the photos on display were original works (which made the exhibition exceptional). By the artist’s desire, the collection was donated to the Yerevan History Museum.
