Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Kamo Areyan hosted the delegation headed by the vice-Mayor of Diarbekir, Turkey populated by Kurds Hefiza Ipek. Greeting the guests on behalf of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, Kamo Areyan said that the conditions necessary for regular vital activity of the national minorities including Kurdish community in Yerevan are created and all the communities regularly appear with cultural and other initiatives.
"At different levels Yerevan has ties with the cities of a number of countries. We are glad to host you in Yerevan and I think that the cultural dialogue may become a good platform for cooperation in other spheres as well", said Kamo Areyan. Expressing gratitude for warm welcome the Deputy Mayor of Diarbekir Hefiza Ipek in his turn said that the Kurdish community making up the majority of Diarbekir population always keeps friendly relationship with local Armenians and noted that Armenians play active role in the political and economical life of Diarbekir. He also added that the Armenian church St Kirakos had been re-opened recently.
"We have always regarded Armenians as our friends and we are sure that our relations may have good perspectives", said Hefiza Ipek.
