Perspectives of cultural and tourism development of the capital were presented at the international conference “Yerevan 2025”
The programs carried out by the city authorities in the direction of the capital city development during the last years were presented as well as the perspectives of Yerevan development were outlined during the international forum “Yerevan 2025” held in the capital at the initiative of Yerevan Municipality within the frames of “ Erebuni-Yerevan 2796” celebration.
Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Aram Sukiasyan came up with the report on “Tourism development in the context of cultural resources effective development”. Speaking about the activities carried out by Yerevan Municipality in the sphere of culture Aram Sukiasyan outlined the actions aimed at preservation of cultural values, improvement of the quality of labour resources and their social conditions, maintenance of availability of cultural heritage. To develop the infrastructures of modern art renovation of the premises of cultural organizations and their technical saturation are regularly carried out. Among the perspectives of 2025 was outlined the necessity of establishment of international specialized schools and preservation and publicizing of historical and cultural heritage.
“Throughout its history Yerevan has always got cultural achievements, has left its trait both in Europe and in Asia. The 25-year transitional period of our statehood has been overcome and currently Armenia is in the stage of serious development. Yerevan is the cultural, scientific and educational center of all Armenians. The local self-governance bodies of the city and the community pay special attention to the intellectual tomorrow of Yerevan”, said the Deputy Mayor stressing that cultural development of the capital is directly connected with tourism which will contribute culture development in case of correct use of resources. As an example he outlined the international cinema and theater festivals held in Yerevan.
“The Government of Armenia announced tourism to be among the priorities of economic development. In parallel with steps aimed at the development analysis of rapid and uncontrolled tourism is done. Yerevan tourism route has been worked out however it should be saturated with a number of cultural programs and events. Yerevan brand is being worked out as well”, said Aram Sukiasyan. In his speech Aram Sukiasyan also presented the problems and outlined the fundamental restoration problem of some historical and cultural centers.
In the context of the fundamental problem presented by the Deputy Mayor, the director of “Erebuni” historical and archaeological reserve-institute Gagik Gyurjyan made a report on “New possibilities of reconstruction and purposeful use of archaeological monuments” and within its scope he presented the investment project of “Erebuni: reserve-museum modernization which involves some segments of the reserve including restoration of middle citadel. Gagik Gyurjyan noted that taking into account the international experience the implementation of the project is of important economic significance.
While presenting the theme “Cultural and tourism resources” the head of tourism unit of Yerevan Municipality Department of Culture and Tourism Maria Baraghamyan introduced the programs worked out by Yerevan Municipality with the aim of modernization of urban tourism infrastructures and outlined the use of interactive components. Stressing that currently the tendency for tourism development is obvious particularly in Europe Maria Baraghamyan attached importance to development of corresponding infrastructures in Yerevan and in this context outlined necessary conditions for proper recreation.
“Yerevan is a rapidly developing city and it’s natural that tourism has a special role in urban economy. With its cultural and tourism resources Yerevan has serious potential to become a regional tourism center in 2025. With this aim Yerevan Municipality worked out a package of investment proposals which is aimed at tourism infrastructures development. It should be noted that special attention is paid at providing pre-conditions for tourism development in administrative districts”, said Maria Baraghamyan and presented in details the programs of “Haghtanak” (“Victory”) park reconstruction and Yerevan Zoo modernization.
As regards targeted measures first of all the necessity of working out the tourism concept “Yerevan 2025” was outlined.
