“Yerevan 2800” carpet has been presented to Yerevan History Museum

Within the frames of the “Museums night” event Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan was present at the solemn ceremony of presenting the carpet “Yerevan 2800” made by “Megeryan carpet” carpet company to Yerevan History Museum. The process of weaving of the carpet started a year ago by the initiative of Yerevan Municipality in teamwork with “Megeryan carpet” company. Expressing gratitude to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan for assistance in the activities the General Manager of “Megeryan carpet” Raffi Megeryan said that “Yerevan 2800” carpet has become a true gift for Yerevan.

“Mister Mayor, from the first day of starting the carpet you have done your best together with us so that everything will be done in harmony and beautifully. This carpet will play in important role to represent the centuries-old history of Yerevan to subsequent generations”, said Raffi Megeryan. The honour of solemn opening was given to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and to the General Manager of “Megeryan carpet” company Raffi Megeryan.
In his turn greeting those present Mayor Taron Margaryan expressed gratitude to the Megeryans and to all those carpet weavers who made the carpet.
“On the event of the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan foundation numerous events will be held and one of them was the creation of “Yerevan 2800” carpet and giving it as a gift to Yerevan History Museum. Today we are passing to generations this unique carpet on which 12 capitals of Armenia are depicted. It really a great honour for us to become the participant of the events and initiatives dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan foundation”, said the Mayor.
During the ceremony, on the event of the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan, for contribution to preservation, development and spreading of the culture of carpet weaving as well as for contribution to handmade carpets making Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan awarded the “Megeryan carpet” company with the memory medal of Yerevan 2800th anniversary.
For participation in “Yerevan 2800” carpet making, contribution to preservation, development and spreading of the culture of carpet weaving the designer of “Megeryan carpet” Naira Mkhitaryan was awarded with Yerevan Mayor’s honorary diploma.
Carpet weaves of the “Megeryan carpet” Lilit Vardanyan, Roza Sargsyan, Susanna Asatryan, Gohar Tutkhanyan, Anna Badalyan and Julietta Sekhleyan were awarded with Yerevan Mayor’s thanksgiving diploma. The carpet made of natural wool is of 4 meters width and 7 meters length.
In the center of the carpet is the cuneiform inscription- “the birth certificate” of Yerevan. In the right and left corners are weaved Urartian King Argishti who founded the fortress Erebuni and the chief architect of modern Yerevan Alexander Tamanyan.
In the center there is a pomegranate tree the branches of which are risen in the form of the sycamore symbolizing life. Among ornaments are patters representing 13 capitals located in chronological order- beginning from the very foundation, as well as the buildings become the main state, cultural and spiritual symbols of modern Yerevan. The carpet will be displayed in the foyer of Yerevan History Museum within a year.
