Yerevan presents its touristic potential at the international conference “Competitiveness for sustainable tourism growth”

On November 13-14, with the assistance of Tourism Ministry of Jordan, Amman City Hall and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) the international conference “Competitiveness for sustainable tourism growth” was held in the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan-Amman.. At the behest of Amman which is the sister-city of Yerevan, Yerevan Mayor’s Assistant, the coordinator of the sphere of tourism Maria Baraghamyan took part in the conference.
Together with experts and persons in charge of the spheres of tourism and city management representing New-York, Madrid, Mexico, Dubai, Croatia and Cyprus, Maria Baraghamyan made reports on the topics “Sustainable tourism development” and “Smart city”, presenting the conception and programs of development of tourism in Yerevan.
Greeting the participants of the conference on behalf of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan,Maria Baraghamyan referred to the programs aimed at tourism boosting and implemented during the last years and outlined that particular importance is attached to this sphere in urban economy. Yerevan Mayor’s Assistant also informed that a number of tourism-targeted programs were carried out with applying of modern technologies, creation of touristic infrastructures, attraction of investments and development of event tourism.
Taking the opportunity Maria Baraghamyan noted that next year Yerevan is celebrating its 2800th anniversary of foundation and invited everybody to visit the capital of Armenia.
Within the frames of the two-day conference Maria Baraghamyan also met with the representatives of tourism sphere of different countries. During the meetings preliminary agreements were made concerning cooperation in the sphere of urban tourism development.
