The international half marathon race, Yerevan Half Marathon, will be held in Yerevan for the first time. The issues related to the organization, goals and rules of the first Yerevan Half Marathon have been elucidated by the initiators and organizers: the head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Development and Investment Programs Armen Harutyunyan, the Executive Director of Repat Armenia Foundation Vardan Marashlyan, the leader of “Yerevan Half Marathon” project Anahit Adamyan.
“Yerevan Half Marathon is another result of cooperation between Yerevan Municipality and private sector. The Half Marathon is a part of Erebuni-Yerevan celebration and will precede the celebration. The goal of the event is to spread healthy lifestyle in Yerevan, to develop sport tourism, to create favourable conditions: during the half marathon race the participants from other countries will be able to get acquainted with the picturesque sights of Yerevan while running along their route. I think that the event will be exciting”, said the head of Yerevan Department of Development and Investment Programs Armen Harutyunyan. 4 competition distances have been determined: 21 km and 10 km for experienced runners, 2km and 1 km for beginners. The track of 1 km is for children as well. While determining the running routes the organizers created conditions so that everybody can take part in the marathon regardless of age, physical state and abilities.
“During the registration we got many interesting applications. At the moment we have 4 benevolent organizations which are going to take part in the marathon concentrating this way public’s attention on their programs and problems. We also have a group of disabled people to take part in 2-km race. We attach particular importance to turning the first half marathon into a family festival, so different distances make it possible for all members of the family to participate. 1200 participants have already checked in”, said the leader of the program Anahit Adamyan and added that in other countries the enthusiasts of this event even plan their holidays in accordance with the half marathons held in various countries worldwide.
The Executive Director of Repat Armenia Foundation Vardan Marashlyan stressed that there are participation applications for Yerevan Half Marathon not only from nearest regions but also from almost all European countries and even from Africa.
“It’s a great honour for Repat Armenia Foundation to take part in the realization of the program. It’s also very important for us to create new ties between Diaspora and Armenia. We have repatriates who are going to take part in the race, and Armenians from Diaspora from 20 countries who are going to bring their not Armenian friends with them”, said the Executive Director of the Foundation Vardan Marashlyan.
The head of Yerevan Municipality Division of Sport and Youth Affairs Yuri Mamikonyan and singer, showman Aram MP3 who will encourage the participants from the stage, were present at the press conference as well.
The winners of the marathon will be awarded.
There is a membership fee for taking part in the half marathon in accordance with the distance, in case of group participation certain discounts are provided. No fees for the benevolent organizations and disabled participants.
The first Yerevan Half marathon will be held in the central streets of Yerevan.
