Yerevan Mayor visited the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Catherine

The delegation headed by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan visited the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Catherine in Petersburg. Built during the reign of Empress Catherine II by the initiative of the leader of the Armenian community, eminent statesman Hovhannes Lazaryan and by donations of the Armenian community, this church became a spiritual center of the national culture for the Armenians of Saint Petersburg. According to priest Sarkis Chopuryan, the church which has a three-centuries-old history plays an important role in unifying the Armenian community. Attaching particular importance to the role and significance of the Armenian Church in keeping the Armenian traditions in Diaspora, Mayor Taron Margaryan thanked priest Sargis Chopuryan for his contribution to unifying the Armenian community.
