30.08.2022

The construction of the recreation zone is going on in the area of Yerevan Lake. The Yerevan reservoir built in 1970 is going to stand out with new facilities and fully meet its function via solving environmental problems.
Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan made a working visit to the area and watched the process in the company with the persons in charge for the process.
Before starting the improvement program, the area of Yerevan Lake was cleared from the garbage piled here for nearly 50 years. Within the first stage of this large-scale program 650 trucks of wastes were removed and the surface of 8 ha was cleared.
“Although we haven’t solved the problem completely, in 2022 we carried out large-scale activities and cleared more than 8 ha from reeds. Next year we are going to carry on drying out the reeds and cleaning up the bed of the Hrazdan river which flows into Yerevan Lake. I believe that disbursing financial means from the budget every year to improve this area, in a few years the environment will be much better”, said the Mayor.
Yerevan has become rather dusty and Yerevan Lake with its microclimate will have a great positive influence.
2,8 ha of the lake shore will be well-arranged, 2.1 ha of which will be greened, 1100 linear meters of irrigation network will be installed.
According to the Mayor, the construction is planned to be implemented in 2023 as well. There will be a small bridge to connect the banks of the lake. Special attention is paid to the environment as Yerevan needs more green zones.
The director of “Landscaping and Environment Protection” municipal company Armen Begoyan informed that they had been assigned to work out a landscaping project for the rocky areas and apply special architectural design. In autumn, sanitary trimming will be done, and the area will be cleared from dry trees and branches.
The program involves installation of benches, dustbins, construction of a sports ground, a bicycle lane of 500 m, a walkway; the area will be illuminated with lamps working on solar energy.
In addition to mitigation of the dry climate of the capital, Yerevan Lake solves the problem of storing irrigation water. In 2023, the community will allot appropriate finances.
“In the community budget of 2023 we anticipated construction of a cleaning station at the junction of the Getar and the Hrazdan rivers so that clean water empties into Yerevan Lake. The project requires lots of work and the first steps have been done”, marked the Mayor.
The restoration of the forest zone adjacent to Tsitsernakaberd is among the programs of essential ecological significance for the capital. The project anticipated in 2019 started this year. First, sanitary cleaning was carried out in the community-owned are of 8.5 ha. 160 employees were involved in the activities. More than 400 trucks of garbage were removed from here.
Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan visited the spot to see the results of the work done. The persons in charge informed that about 620 trees and bushed were planted during the spring tree planting action.
The Mayor instructed to keep the issue of irrigation in focus.
A large-scale tree planting action is scheduled for this autumn as well.
The left segment of 1.2 ha will get irrigation system too and in the area of 6 ha forest plantations will be set up.
After the completion of these important programs, the areas of Yerevan Lake and Tsitsernakaberd forest zone will both mitigate climatic changes and become popular recreation zones for townspeople and guests of the city.
