Five more buses of “Yerevan bus” company of Yerevan Municipality have been provided with the elevators for people with special needs. We'd like to remind that at the instruction of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan 10 buses were equipped with elevators in 2014, and 10 more buses in 2015.
The head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Transport Henrikh Navasardyan informed that presently the buses adapted for people with locomotor disabilities serve 8 routes- N3,N13, N14, N20,N 22, N28,N33 and N35.
The routes of the buses are worked out in accordance with the principle that people with locomotor problems could get to the city center and return. The beneficiaries tested the technical capacities of the elevators noted that the lifts are really comfortable and thanked for attention and care. Corresponding signs with the phone number of dispatching services of the routes are stuck on the side and front parts of the buses due to which necessary information is available. The program will be continued in 2017 as well.
The Deputy Staff Secretary of Yerevan Municipality Samvel Mertarjyan informed that this initiative is considered as a part of “More available Yerevan” program and added that the problems of people with special needs are taken into account in urban development projects. Referring to the program of wheelchair ramps construction Samvel Mertarjyan said that this year the number of ramps in the capital has increased by 275 units and 420 more ramps are to be constructed in near future.
Since 2016 has started the program of installation of special yellow tiles for people with weak eyesight. At the instruction of Yerevan Mayor in near future the busy junctions in the administrative districts of the capital will be provided with such tiles.
The number of the traffic lights provided with special sound signals announcing the green light will be increased at the junctions too.
