The Chief Advisor to Yerevan Mayor Vano Vardanyan met with the Advisor to the Mayor of Armenia-the capital of Quindio Department of the Republic of Colombia, the member of the City Council Luis Fernando Ramirez Echeverry who is in Yerevan with a familiarization trip, as well as with the aim of conveying the partnership establishment offer to Yerevan Municipality on behalf of the Mayor of Armenia city.
Greeting the initiative of Armenia's City Hall on behalf of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, Vano Vardanyan expressed the willingness of the Mayor to discuss the offer and to take an action on it. "Today Yerevan cooperates with more than 50 cities and towns worldwide and about 10 international organizations. We are glad to receive the partnership offer from the city bearing the same name as our country. Yerevan Municipality is open and willing to discuss this cooperation offer and we hope that it would have a firm basis with the perspective of further development", said the Chief Advisor to Yerevan Mayor.
The parties talked about the urban economy infrastructures of the two cities, about the priority directions of development. Mr. Luis Fernando Ramirez Echeverry presented Vano Vardanyan the history of Armenia's foundation, the features of the city economy and noted that though today there is no Armenian community in Armenia the wish to start cooperation is great.
Armenia got is name in 1880 from the name of the estate owned by one of local Armenians and was finally named "Armenia" just after the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Luis Fernando Ramirez Echeverry noted that Armenia recognized the Armenian Genocide and on April 24 a minute of silence is announced every year. Mr Echeverry noted also that Armenia is one of the centers of coffee production in Colombia and due to rapid development of the city it is also called "The city of miracles" and it achieved significant success in the sphere of tourism.
