Hayk Marutyan participates in ceremony dedicated to anniversary of end of Siege of Leningrad

Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan participated in the solemn event dedicated the 77th anniversary of the end of the Siege of Leningrad. The Mayor and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin laid flowers at the monument dedicated to Leningrad’s children which is located in Children’s park of Arabkir district.
Members of the Council of Elders, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, students of the schools after A. Pushkin and A. Blok took part in the event as well.
During the Siege of Leningrad lasted for 872 days, from September 8,1941 till January 27,1944, approximately 630 thousand people died. 100 thousand Armenians participated in the liberation of the city and about 20 thousand of them lost their lives. 500 children from 7 orphanages and rural kindergartens of Leningrad were evacuated and sheltered in Armenia during that period.
In his speech Mayor Hayk Marutyan noted that the heroism of the people of Leningrad could serve a vivid example of subsequent generations.
