The underground parking zone at Azatutyan square provided for about 500 vehicles has been completely modernized. Automated systems of entrance and exit, payment and video surveillance have been installed.

Mayor Hayk Marutyan visited the area to familiarize himself with the work done at the community-owned parking zones. While working out the new system the existing problems, international experience and modern technological means were studied.
From now on drivers are to pay via self-service terminals. Six payment terminals installed on three floors of the parking zone have different ways of payment.

“The system has been worked out to exclude any communication with other people. The automated system registers your license plate and the time of your parking time starts from that moment. When going out of the parking zone you pay at another payment box for the time you were at the parking zone. We call out townspeople to make use of this payment system. We also have an additional payment method – right at the exit, however it is more expensive. Paying via terminals is cheaper and more convenient as it doesn’t cause any queues”, stressed the Mayor.
“One can pay in cash (change is returned), by card or via NFC system on the mobile phone”, explains the head of “Technology Management Centre of Yerevan City” Sargis Manukyan.

Exploitation for 10 years and current technologies caused different problems: the equipment had been worn out, there was lack of transparency and supervision and the payment was only in cash. Installation of the new system has already given noticeable results: the quality of service has increased, incomes have grown.
“Currently the amounts flow only into the budget. Taking the opportunity I’d like to say that this parking zone is community-owned and the amounts received will serve the community”, stressed the Mayor.
There are different tariffs at the parking and it is possible to have a monthly subscription.
From 09:00 till 24:00 the fee is AMD 200 per hour, from 24:00 till 09:00 is 100 AMD per hour, however in case of parking throughout night the fee is AMD 500. Month subscription fee is AMD 20.000. It is significantly cheaper than in other parking zones of the city centre.
Free charging stations for electric cars have been installed in the parking zone of Azatutyan square. The systems were installed by Plug.am program which is implemented by “The Armenian Energy Agency” foundation.
Ensuring effective management of the city’s infrastructures and available and transparent services for townspeople is a priority for the city authorities. Modern technologies are going to be used in other fields as well.
