New Arabkir park or so-called “Molokan’s park” has been reopened after renovation.
The renovation was really large-scale as it included restoration of its significance as a recreation zone.
Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan together with representatives of the staff and members of the Council visited the area to watch the work done.
The Mayor outlined that various services were engaged in the renovation activities and he asked townspeople to treat the park with care so as it could serve for many years.
The park used to be leased for decades by an individual, however no care taken of the area and lots of problems had piled as a result.
According to the Mayor’s Advisor Aram Danielyan, the park was leased for 50 years but they saw the conditions worsen day by day. After 2018, the political team promised to return public areas to townspeople and this is the typical example. The city authorities negotiated with the leaser and arranged with him to give the park back to the city. The problem was not only with shabby surroundings but with green zones as well: the trees started to dry and were on the verge of disappearing.
Within six months nearly 200 trucks of trash was removed from the area. The trees were trimmed and brought to proper order, new plants were added. Protection of green zones is important as it creates a microclimate due to which a great deal of dust is absorbed.
The recreation zone has also been provided with a new system of irrigation which will make it possible to take care of the green zones. A new external lighting network provided with LED lamps was installed, wheelchair access was provided, walkways were well-arranged. Fountains were re-operated and the monument “New Arabkir”renovated.
“We have renovated the park at the costs of the community budget and presented it to townspeople. We will do our best to restore the recreation zones in other districts as well and to create new fountain complexes and rest zones. Yerevan has problem in the field of greening and we must increase the green zones of the city so as our children grow up in good environment,” said Hrachya Sargsyan.
Local residents helped in the implementation of this important project. Their offered solutions to the problems they faced every day and their suggestions were taken into account. The acting head of Building and Improvement Department of Yerevan Municipality Khoren Grigoryan thanked the residents for the support they showed during the process.
The city authorities are firm in their approaches regarding restoration of green zones. The number of restored parks and gardens will gradually be replenished with new ones.
