Squares are to serve as squares: No parking will be allowed in Shahumyan square
At the special meeting of the Council of Elders convened on January 29, the Council approved of the draft decision on the right for service parking areas operation. Thus, about 40 different organizations in 53 different areas of the city got the right to continue the operation of service parking areas.
By another decision the Council refused the proposal on the organization of parking in Shahumyan square. ‘Elite-Plaza” and “America” JCSC lost the right to arrange a parking spot in Shahumyan square. Some other applications for parking area arrangement were also refused by the Council. Yerevan Mayor stressed that clear approaches are to be worked out with the aim of regulation of this sphere, and till that Hayk Marutyan expected consistent work of the Road Police. Referring to the problem of parking areas organization in squares the Mayor stressed that squares are to serve as squares. “Shahumyan square is very beautiful and we give it back to townspeople. Its beauty can be seen only when there are no cars”, said the Mayor.
