Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan met with the founder of “Nest Labs” company, the creator of Ipod brand, American inventor of Lebanon origin Tony Fadell. . Yerevan Mayor congratulated Tony Fadell on getting the RA President’s Prize for his contribution to the sphere of information technologies and wished him good luck and new achievements. Presenting the guest the capital and the programs of development carried out in various spheres of urban economy during the recent years Mayor Taron Margaryan stressed that consistent policy was carried out to make the city more comfortable for townspeople and for guests of the capital.
“Next year Yerevan is celebrating its 2800th anniversary and our aim is to make our capital appear before the world not only as one of the oldest cities but also taking into account the big potential of our specialists in IT sphere make Yerevan become one of the cities where smart solutions and suggestions are created. With this aim we created the commission for working out and implementation of “Yerevan-smart city” program which already takes concrete steps to work out conceptions and strategies. Next year, within the frames of the events dedicated to Yerevan’s 2800th anniversary we plan to organize two big events: the international conference and international exposition Smart City Expo which will be closely connected with “Smart city” program. In the implementation of this program I expect your support and active cooperation with the commission for working out and implementation of “Yerevan-smart city” program.
Expressing gratitude for warm welcome the founder of “Nest Lab” Tony Fadell accepted Yerevan Mayor’s suggestion and stressed that he is ready to share his ideas with the members of the commission and to take part in “Yerevan-smart city” program implementation.
“Mister Mayor, I’d like to express my gratitude for warm welcome, congratulation and willingness for cooperation. I am ready to cooperate with local specialists and to assist them. I have already made sure that Yerevan is the city with sustainable route of development. I’d also like to outline that it was a nice surprise for me to find payment terminals everywhere in the city. I want to outline that even in France where I live, and in Silicon Valley, where I lived for more than 10 years there aren’t such progressive payment infrastructures. And generally, the approaches in e-management applied in Yerevan are a good start for technological development and installation of innovation solutions which will create the opportunity to provide more effective management in various spheres of urban economy and to develop the city infrastructure. I must admit that I am already interested to know what Yerevan will be like in 10 years”, said Tony Fadell.
At the end of the meeting Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan invited Tony Fadell to visit Yerevan next year to Take part in festive events dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of foundation of the capital of Armenia.
